Rubber Roll Price per m²: Real Numbers and the Six Factors That Move Them
The 10-second answer: for standard EPDM fleck colors, FOB Tianjin (October 2026 factory price list), gym rubber rolls run about $5.4–5.8/m² at 4 mm, $6.7–7.4 at 5 mm, $8.1–8.9 at 6 mm, $10.5–11.3 at 8 mm, $11.7–12.3 at 9 mm and $12.8–13.8 at 10 mm. Thickness and density explain most of the difference; the rest comes from surface, raw material grade, quantity and freight charges. This page shows exactly how each factor moves the number, so you can tell a fair quote from an expensive one.

Indicative FOB Prices by Thickness (October 2026)
*The 3 mm band is an ex-works reference; all other rows are FOB Tianjin from our October 2026 factory price list (roll diameter shown for a standard 1.25 m wide roll — useful for truck and container planning). Quantity visibly moves the number: 6 mm rolls quote $8.85/m² at 180 m² but $8.10/m² at 2,500 m² — almost a 10% swing from order size alone. Smaller orders, LCL shipments and custom blends price higher. These are factory-direct figures from a Hebei manufacturer producing since 2002 — not trader markups.
| Thickness (roll diameter) | FOB Tianjin / m² | Typical use |
|---|---|---|
| 3 mm (≈210 mm dia.) | $3.8 – 4.8* | Light commercial cardio, stretching zones |
| 4 mm (≈230 mm dia.) | $5.4 – 5.8 | Cardio decks, hotel and apartment gyms |
| 5 mm (≈270 mm dia.) | $6.7 – 7.4 | Cardio and machine areas |
| 6 mm (≈310 mm dia.) | $8.1 – 8.9 | Functional training, machine areas |
| 8 mm (≈360 mm dia.) | $10.5 – 11.3 | Heavy machine areas, light free weights |
| 9 mm (≈370 mm dia.) | $11.7 – 12.3 | Free-weight zones |
| 10 mm (≈380 mm dia.) | $12.8 – 13.8 | Free-weight zones, high-traffic commercial |
Factor 1 — Thickness (the biggest driver)
Rubber is sold by weight before it is sold by area. A 10 mm roll uses roughly three times the raw material of a 3 mm roll, so the price scales almost linearly with thickness once density is held constant. Choosing 2 mm more thickness than your traffic actually needs is the single most common way buyers overpay.
Factor 2 — Density (kg/m³, the hidden variable)
Two rolls with identical dimensions can differ 15–20% in price because of density. Standard gym rolls run around 1,050–1,150 kg/m³. Higher density means more rubber per square meter: harder wearing under dropped weights, less indentation under machines — and a higher price. Low-density rolls feel cheaper and compress faster. Always ask for the density in writing; it is the number traders most often hide.
Factor 3 — Surface: Plain Black vs EPDM Fleck
Plain black SBR: the lowest price line — ideal for weight rooms where looks do not matter
Standard EPDM fleck (grey/blue/red dots): a modest uplift for a premium look in member areas
High color-fleck ratio or custom brand colors: the top price band — colored EPDM granules cost several times black rubber
Factor 4 — Raw Material Grade
Recycled rubber is not one commodity. Rolls pressed from premium shredded tire tread wear longer, shed fewer granules and smell less than rolls from mixed reclaimed crumb. The difference is invisible in photos and obvious after a year of traffic — it is also where the cheapest quotes quietly save money. Our factory lines run both a standard line and a premium line; ask which grade your quote reflects.
Factor 5 — Roll Dimensions and Order Quantity
Standard gym rolls are 1.25 m wide and 10–20 m long, with roll diameter growing from about 210 mm (3 mm thickness) to about 420 mm (12 mm) — the diameter figure matters when planning pallets, truck loading and container space. Non-standard widths generate cutting waste and a higher per-m² price. Quantity matters more: our MOQ is 500 m² per SKU, but unit prices fall noticeably at full-container volumes because pressing, packing and handling amortize across more area.
What FOB Does NOT Include (budget these too)
An EXW (ex-works) quote excludes everything; FOB adds inland freight and port charges to that base. When comparing suppliers, compare the same term — FOB against EXW differences of $1–2/m² are usually logistics, not product.
| Charge | Typical cost | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Pallets & packing | ~$1/m² | Wood pallets + export packing, required for container loading |
| Inland haulage to port | $0.3–1/m² | Depends on factory distance to Tianjin/Qingdao |
| Port & customs charges (FOB) | Quoted per shipment | THC, docs, customs declaration — fixed per container, not per m² |
